Scott Tipton (Republican – Colorado) introduced H.R. 698 to require a land conveyance involving the Elkhorn Ranch and the White River National Forest in the State of Colorado, and for other purposes.

BILL STATUS

The bill was first introduced in January 24, 2017, was passed with a voice vote in the House of Representative on February 6, and received in the Senate and referred to the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources on February 7, 2017.

BILL SUMMARY

This bill transfers 148 acres of land from the White River National Forest to the privately held ranch. The 148 acres was originally part of the ranch, and extends into the pre-existing fence line; a survey error on the part of the U.S. Government in 1949 erroneously mapped these acres in the National Forest. The error was discovered in 2002. The Ranch has been paying property taxes for the 148 acres since 1949. An oil/gas lease was granted by the U.S. within the boundaries of these 148 acres in 2011 and the land transfer upholds the lease.
